Tony Ross

B.Arch., OAA, Architect AIBC, SAA, AANB, NSAA, MRAIC

Principal

Tony Ross is an award-winning architect and Principal at Montgomery Sisam Architects. With over 25 years of experience, Tony has built a distinguished career dedicated to the design and delivery of complex social infrastructure, with a particular emphasis on seniors’ supportive housing. His projects balance current capital and operational realities with design solutions that enhance resident well-being and support the critical work of frontline staff.

Since joining Montgomery Sisam in 2006 and being appointed Principal in 2016, Tony has become a recognized leader in long-term care design. For more than a decade, he has worked closely with leading gerontology researchers across Canada to adapt and implement innovative, evidence-based models of care. He is fluent in long-term care design standards across multiple jurisdictions as well as the new national standard, CSA Z8004, positioning him as a trusted advisor on best practices and regulatory compliance.

Tony approaches each new project with curiosity and a drive for continuous improvement rather than adhering to the status quo. He is deeply invested in fostering a collaborative, supportive studio culture. And he is widely respected for his inclusive leadership and positive, solutions-oriented approach.

Tony’s curiosity and commitment to improving the sector extend beyond design to shaping broader industry dialogue. He is a regular speaker at national healthcare conferences, sharing insights on urban long-term care development, the “Build Big, Live Small” model, and evolving design standards for seniors’ care environments. Tony actively participates in working groups focused on advancing best practices and draws on lessons from international models to inform local solutions. His investment in understanding alternative approaches ensures that his work remains innovative, adaptable, and aligned with emerging trends in care delivery.
