Montgomery Sisam Architects is thrilled to announce that we have been commissioned to design the 253 King William Street project, a new affordable rental housing development in downtown Hamilton. The three-strorey modular construction, developed in collaboration with NRB Modular Solutions for City Housing Hamilton, will accommodate 24 studio-style units and offer community rooms, meeting rooms and social spaces.
The building is targeting Passive House Certification, leveraging the factory-controlled setting of prefab construction to deliver a highly efficient building envelope. The design also features photovoltaic panels to support its fully electric heating and cooling systems. The project is a continuation of the firm’s ongoing commitment to providing high quality, integrated, and dignified affordable housing, combatting the stigma often associated with supportive housing that serves a low income demographic.
The project aims to meet the CHMC’s Rapid Housing Initiative funding timelines, with occupancy slated for Fall 2022.
