Overview

The Gallery at Bennett Village is a premium 60-plus life lease community and the inaugural phase of a new Campus of Continuum Care for seniors next the William Osler Hospital in Georgetown, Ontario.

Owned and operated by not-for-profit, charitable organization Bennett Healthcare, the Gallery features 105, one- and two-bedroom apartment units and a variety of shared amenities, including activity rooms, a wellness centre, a terrace and a library – all designed for active seniors. The 11-storey mass is broken down into two offset bars whose facades are animated by projecting balconies and applications of two-toned brick. The main entrance and lobby are distinguished by a generous canopy and natural materials that give the building a warm, welcoming quality.

The design is careful to preserve the existing woodlot along which the Gallery is set; it is curated to offers residents views of both the ravine and trail system that run through the picturesque 18-acres site. To mitigate the amount of surface paving, the building features 2 levels of underground parking. Given the natural amenities of the property, this posed a number of complex conservation issues, including maintaining underground water flows to the creek.
