Overview

The One-Stop Multi-Services Centre project is part of an innovative, industry leading initiative in elder care known as the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE). The PACE model delivers to community-dwelling seniors a comprehensive, coordinated range of medical and social services in an effort to support aging independently, in greater health.

The single, purpose-built facility co-locates Primary Care, Short-Stay Transition Care, Social Services, Adult Day Programming, Mental Health Counseling, Wellness Coaching, Chronic Disease Management (diabetes, dialysis treatment, etc.), Vocational Training and Health Education, under one roof to improve access and strengthen the continuum of care. In keeping with its one-stop mandate, the centre also accommodates a series of retail tenants, including a pharmacy, imaging lab and Chinese herbalist. Important amenity spaces include a fitness/dance studio, music room and multi-purpose gathering space that doubles as an event hall for local and cultural festivities. Serving predominantly Chinese and South East Asian cultures, the building is designed around a courtyard garden reminiscent of the traditional Chinese courtyard house. The garden is both a contemplative retreat and an amenity for gardening for seniors. Physical and or visual access to the outdoors on all four levels enhances orientation and way finding and creates a bright, cheerful environment.

Within a short time of launching full service operation, this healthy, sustainable, culturally sensitive hub with abundant natural light and warm, welcoming spaces has proven itself to be an essential asset to the community it serves. In keeping seniors healthy, happy, socially active, it is also a vital contributor to the social and economic sustainability of our healthcare system.
