Associate

James Mallinson is a licensed architect and Associate at Montgomery Sisam Architects with two decades of experience in healthcare, higher education, community recreation, and supportive housing. He first joined the firm as a student intern in 2003, returned full‑time in 2005, and was appointed Associate in 2011. After seven years with the firm, he expanded his experience through work in several other practices before rejoining Montgomery Sisam in 2023 with a broad and diverse portfolio.

Over his tenure at the firm, James has led and supported complex projects through every stage of design and delivery. He is a highly organized, conscientious, and detail‑oriented design, with deep proficiency in consultant coordination, construction detailing, and quality assurance. His experience also spans functional programming, user group engagement, space planning, approvals, construction documentation and contract administration, enabling him to steward project intent clearly and consistently from concept through completion.

James’ practice is rooted in the belief that thoughtful, sensible design emerges from strong project management and a flexible, responsive process. He understands that architects have a privileged perspective into the lives and experiences of the people they serve and that active listening and honest curiosity are fundamental to developing creative, meaningful responses to complex needs.

A certified Passive House Designer, James brings strong knowledge of sustainable, low‑carbon design and construction to the firm. He contributes this expertise together with his broader technical skills to Montgomery Sisam’s Standards Committee, supporting the consistent quality and reliability of the firm’s work.
