Amica Islington Village is a premium-level seniors community located in the heart of Etobicoke at the corner of Dundas St. West and Burnhamthorpe Rd. The mid-rise development ranges from 4 to 10 stories and offers 210 memory care, assisted living and independent living suites.
The design capitalizes on the building’s location within the Islington Village community and its boutique style shopping, quaint dining spots, public services, park spaces, and convenient access to public transit. A restaurant, bar bistro, café, salon and other retail spaces occupy the ground floor and are publicly accessible from the generous sidewalks along Dundas St. West and Burnhamthorpe Rd. More private resident centered amenities, including a pool, gym and other health & wellness facilities, open onto the private landscaped courtyards. An oversized second floor terrace area is fully landscaped for resident use within the building.
Residents benefit from a range of other amenities including underground parking, a multipurpose room/theatre, a billiards/games room, greenhouse, library, craft kitchen with private dining room located throughout the building.
The contemporary architecture of the new Amica Islington Village borrows proportions from the 1946 Georgian Revival Etobicoke Township Hall building, which fronts Dundas Street West at its base. An important part of the community’s architectural heritage, the Georgian Revival character and architectural detailing serve as a design inspiration for the new development. The heritage building has been thoughtfully incorporated into the new facility as a bar bistro, in deference to its history as a community hub.
In keeping with Amica’s mission to provide the full continuum of senior’s living experiences, this residence provides the opportunity for seniors to ‘age-in-place’ as their needs evolve. 32 memory care suites for seniors suffering from dementia or memory loss can be found on a dedicated floor with secure amenity spaces including two lounges, a large dining space, and a landscaped memory care outdoor terrace. In addition to independent living suites, 80 assisted living units, also on their own dedicated floors, provide a higher-level of assistance for seniors in need of support with the activities of daily living.
