After much anticipation, the Cayman Islands Long-term Residential Mental Health Facility is moving into construction.
The Cayman Islands’ new Long Term Residential Mental Health Facility will be located on a rural, government-owned, inland property in the Island’s East End. It is a long-awaited response to growing mental health needs on the Island and a shortage of long-term treatment and recovery options. It will provide functioning, potentially productive Caymanians with a safe, dignified, convivial, home-like milieu that will enhance their journey to recovery and community reintegration.
Principal-in-Charge, Alice Liang joined local partner DDL Studio to celebrate with Ministry Officials and Mental Health Leaders, as they celebrated the project’s momentous ground-breaking on Tuesday, October 8th.
A difficult bidding process led to three contractors being selected, each responsible for one component of the build out. The facility is slated to open in the second quarter of 2021.
