Principal, Enda McDonagh discusses Modular Housing on The Current with Matt Galloway

Montgomery Sisam Principal, Enda McDonagh chatted with The Current’s @mattgallowayto on CBC Radio about how prefabricated modular homes, and the fast construction timelines that they support, can help tackle Canada’s housing crisis.

Modular housing is increasingly becoming the go-to solution in creating affordable and flexible single- family and multi-family homes. Montgomery Sisam has worked closely with the City of Toronto and a number of other municipalities to explore the viability of modular solutions. Our work on two phases of the City of Toronto’s Modular Supportive Housing Initiative  provides better quality, long-term housing on an accelerated timeline for those currently experiencing homelessness. Our architectural response conceives of a simple, functional module and creates from it a thoughtful, elegant addition to the urban fabric. Phase 1 was initiated in direct response to the COVID-19 pandemic to relieve pressure on the shelter system and to help create a safe and permanent housing solution for its more marginalized residents. Phase 2 continues with these efforts.
