Montgomery Sisam, together with local firm DDL Studio, signed an agreement on Wednesday, July 26th with the Cayman Islands’ Ministry of Health to kick-off the highly anticipated long-term residential mental health facility project.
This initiative, the first of its kind on the Islands, will radically improve mental health services for vulnerable Caymanians and their families. Currently, long-term patients are sent oversees for treatment; those who are unable to obtain visas are treated at the Cayman Islands Hospital or, in certain cases, at Northward Prison, others are cared for by family members.
Located on a 15-acre site in the High Rock area of East End of Grand Cayman, the new, purpose-built local care facility will include a central administrative building and nine small cottages accommodating six residents each. The facility will follow a fast-tracked construction schedule and is projected to open by April 2019.
