Congratulations to Mahin Haynes, recipient of the 2024 Montgomery Sisam Architects Award. Each year the award is given to a Toronto Metropolitan University, Department of Architectural Science student who identify as BIPOC and who address the role of architecture in creating and promoting equitable and diverse communities.
Mahin’s work delves into the creation of counter-cultural spaces that cater to non-traditional communities. He implores architects to “embrace non-conformist architectural ideologies as marginalized communities often bear the brunt of exclusionary design practices.” Mahin’s innovative approach challenges the status quo, advocating for architectural solutions that prioritize inclusivity, accessibility, and representation.
