Hamilton Passive House Modular Housing receives Silver WAN Award

Montgomery Sisam Architects are proud to announce that the Hamilton Passive House Modular Housing project, designed in collaboration with NRB Modular Solutions for CityHousing Hamilton, has been awarded a 2022 Silver WAN Award in the Future Projects – Residential category.

The Hamilton Passive House Modular Housing project is a new affordable rental housing development located at 253 King William Street in the heart of downtown Hamilton, Ontario. The building is three storeys in height and includes 24 studio apartments, along with shared amenities including a community room, meeting room, lounge, and laundry facility.

The project is targeting Passive House Certification and utilizes modular construction, leveraging the superior quality control afforded by prefabricated production to ensure a high-quality, sustainable product within an accelerated timeframe. Replacing an existing surface parking lot situated between a church and a multi-unit residential building, the project also represents a prime example of a sensitive infill development within a dense urban setting. The Silver WAN Award recipient demonstrates that attractive affordable housing options can be designed and delivered in a timely, sustainable, and cost-effective manner.
