Greenwood College School Addition is LEED Gold Certified

Montgomery Sisam is delighted to announce that the Greenwood College School Addition has achieved LEED Gold Certification.

Greenwood embarked on its ambitious expansion project in 2011. The Addition, which houses several large flexible classrooms as well as specialized, state-of-the-art spaces for music, visual arts, digital media, theatre and athletics, increases the School’s square footage by 120%.

As for the project’s sustainability program, a full range of metering systems have been installed which allow students to access, through the intranet, a breakdown of energy use statistics for the building. These not only serve to reduce building running costs and impact on the environment, but also educate students on thinking green in their daily lives. The design itself strives for maximum use of natural light and ventilation to substantially reduce energy consumption. Additional features include high performance walls and windows, sensor technologies and low-flow fixtures.

Pursuing LEED Certification was an integral part of Greenwood’s commitment to teaching its students about global citizenship. And this news couldn’t come at a more exciting time as young people worldwide have come to the helm in the fight against climate change.
