Glen Hill Gardens, in Bowmanville, celebrated the ground-breaking of their new 224 bed long-term care home late last week. Montgomery Sisam has been working closely with the Glen Hill Gardens and Durham Christian Homes team to reimagine a modern, resident-centered Home.
The design solution prioritizes the creation of a home-like environment for seniors. Resident Home Areas are organized around landscaped, secure courtyards that optimize light and views. Corridors terminate at a glazed wall orienting residents to the time of day and season. The dining room, servery, activity room and lounge each have large windows which look onto landscaped gardens.
As in many family homes, the kitchen takes a prominent position as the heart of the new Glen Hill Gardens. Windows into the food preparation space facilitate interactions between residents and staff, and provide staff working in the kitchen access to daylight and views.
The Home also features a secure intergenerational garden, tuck shop, auditorium, café, hair salon, family dining room and chapel.
The ground-breaking marks an important milestone on the road to improving support for seniors in the Bowmanville community.
