Blessing Ceremony held for 140 Merton Street

140 Merton Street – Peyakôskân (One Family), is the first Indigenous-led Housing Now site in the City of Toronto.

Under the leadership of Missanabie Cree First Nation, this landmark project will deliver affordable housing for Indigenous seniors in the heart of midtown.

Working initially with CreateTO, Montgomery Sisam developed the master plan, concept design and re-zoning submission. We are now proud to be collaborating with EllisDon Community Builders to bring the vision to life.

The building will feature a 28-storey tower atop a 5-storey podium, offering; 294 residential units (242 one-bedroom + 52 two-bedroom), community and outreach services on the first two levels, including space for SPRINT, a not-for-profit seniors’ care provider and existing tenant, the first two levels will also include resident amenity spaces designed to foster connection, wellness and cultural continuity for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous Seniors.

Our team attended the Blessing Ceremony, where the site was officially named Peyakôskân – One Family. This Cree word reflects unity, belonging, and shared identity, values at the heart of this development. The Missanabie Cree Chief, City of Toronto councilor, CMHC, financial lenders, Quilts for Survivors, Ellis Don, consultants, and other supporters of the project were also present as we joined in an offering of tobacco and a welcome song during the smudging ceremony sending good thoughts for the project.

We’re deeply grateful to be part of this journey and walk alongside Missanabie Cree First Nation and our project partners as we work together to shape a more inclusive and compassionate city.
