“The new school is a bright and contemporary building with ample daylight and a variety of views.”
The York School is an independent, coeducational, fully accredited International Baccalaureate school with two campuses in a high-density urban area of Toronto. The South Campus houses the Senior School (grades 6 to 12) while the North Campus houses the Junior School (JK to grade 5). Montgomery Sisam is engaged to complete phased alterations and additions to both campuses in order to update the facilities to meet the school’s standards of excellence. Work at the North Campus included the complete gut, alteration and addition to two existing office buildings. Design commenced in early June 2009 and, with the aid of a Construction Management approach and some ingenious permitting strategies, occupancy was achieved in August 2010, in time for the new school year. The new school is a bright and contemporary building with ample daylight and a variety of views. Emphasis has been placed on providing a safe and secure environment to enhance the emotional and physical well-being of the students to improve their ability to think and learn. We are currently developing a Master Plan and Phasing Strategy for alterations and addition to the South Campus Senior School that will include the addition of 15 new state of the art classrooms, 250 seat theatre and new dining hall.
