“A facility that reflects the client’s philosophy on environmental responsibility and learning.”
Greenwood College School is an environmentally sustainable adaptive reuse project, converting a former office building into a wide range of spaces for students on a very confined urban block. The focal point of the independent school in central Toronto is an atrium that plays multiple roles: natural lighting and a ventilation system for the ground floor, a stage both for assemblies and performances, and a climbing wall, connecting all three floors of the building. In this way, the design creates a physical setting that responds to some of the unique aspects of the curriculum.
