Robert Davies and Ed Applebaum to speak at the International Academy for Design & Health’s 7th World Congress in Boston

The 7th World Congress of the International Academy for Design and Health will be held in Boston, July 6-10, 2011.  The conference boasts a leading edge scientific program that will underpin future professional practice in health promotion by design.  The successful partnership with the American Institute of Architects and the Academy of Architecture for Health (AIA-AAH) has attracted the highest level of submitted abstracts for WCDH 2011, resulting in a program that includes world-renowned speakers from research and practice in government, business and academia from every part of the globe.

As part of that program Robert Davies and Ed Applebaum will be speaking on the role of the built environment in promoting life quality for the elderly with their presentation “Caring for the Elderly: Is Big Bad, Better or Both?”  Drawing from their combined 45 years of experience in the design of long term care, Robert and Ed will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of big vs. small home size.  They will look at all of the pressing issues related to life for the elderly, including choice, loneliness, stimulation, boredom, while balancing the need for privacy and community. They will also examine the impact of big vs. small on the economics of construction cost, operational efficiency and economies of scale.
